What days of the week do we build?

Most weeks we build Monday to Friday, during the day, not evenings.  We will work on Saturdays with a group of 3 or more, to book a Saturday please call or email the volunteer coordinator (613-962-7526 x209, volunteercoordinator@habitatpeh.org) at least 3 days in advance to make arrangements.

How long is the build day?

We start at 8:30 am and end at 4 pm.

What time do we arrive on site?

Please arrive on the build site promptly at 8:30 am. We do a safety talk first thing in the morning and need everyone to attend.

Can we arrive late or leave early?

Please arrive on time to sign in with the Site Supervisor and to do the orientation. If you need to leave early, please let the Site Supervisor know when you are leaving and be sure to sign out.

Can we do a half day instead of the full day?

Please be available for the whole day. It is confusing to have volunteers coming and going, it also makes it hard for our Site Supervisor to divide up tasks.  If you need to leave a little early, we can accommodate that.  Please let the site supervisor know at the beginning of the shift.

What should we wear?

Loose, comfortable and old clothing is ideal. Please dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty. No shorts, please, even on a hot day.

What about a hard hat and steel toed boots?

Habitat for Humanity does provide both, but if you have your own boots or hard hat, please bring them with you. We have a limited supply of used boots that you can use for the day. You are also welcome to bring your own hand tools and pouch/belt if you have your own.

Do you provide snacks, lunch?

We will have water on site each day. Some days we will have a donated lunch, but will let you know in advance. Most days, you will need to bring your own packed lunch.

What type of bathroom facilities are on site?

We have a portable toilet on each build site.

What dates are available?

We have online volunteer bookings through Charity Republic for both the build site and the ReStore. Once your online volunteer application has been submitted and reviewed, you will be sent an email invitation from Charity Republic with instructions on how to access your profile and our scheduling calendars.

I’ve volunteered with Habitat PEH before, how do I book into the schedule without completing a new application?

If we have your information already in our database there is no need to complete a second application. The volunteer coordinator will send you an invitation to Charity Republic. Email volunteercoordinator@habitatpeh.org to request an invitation to Charity Republic.

Do volunteers need previous experience?

No experience is required; all volunteers are welcome on a Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings build. There will always be something for everyone to do.

What if someone is not comfortable using power tools or other tools?

There will be other tasks for you to do, please don’t ever do something on the build that you are not comfortable doing, safety is our priority.

Age restrictions for volunteers?

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old for the construction build site, and 15 years old for the ReStore. Anyone under 18 needs parent/guardian signatures on their application in addition to their own; you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator to complete that final part of the application process.

What kind of tasks will volunteers be doing?

Tasks vary depending on the construction schedule that day. Each build project under the Our Builds menu has a status line that indicates where it is in the construction process.

Thank You for your interest in helping on a Habitat for Humanity build site, we can’t build without our volunteers.
