Dear Supporter,

On behalf of the local build committee of Prince Edward Hastings Habitat for Humanity, we want to thank you for the support and enthusiasm you have shared with us regarding our local Habitat for Humanity build.  We continue to be overwhelmed with generous donations from local individuals and businesses.

Our initial hope was to begin construction this summer and we were certainly supported with eager volunteers who were ready to start swinging hammers on this project.

It seems that we were a little too ambitious in our scheduling as our desires have outpaced the reality of a very significant component of the build:  the selection of the appropriate family.

Family selection is the most important decision to be made on this project.  As a committee, we feel that it is our mandate in response to your generosity to ensure that the best most appropriate family is the purchaser of this new home.  Our desire is to provide every opportunity for success in home ownership for the family, and so selecting the right family demands enough time and a sufficient number of applicants for the process to function effectively.

To allow additional time for the family selection process to be successful, we have decided to delay the ground breaking for the project until Spring/Summer 2012. This may allow the selected family to accumulate some "sweat equity” hours through the continued fundraising efforts and planning stages.

We still need your help in two areas to make this project a success:

1.    Fundraising:  Until we break ground next year, we will continue to raise the required funds and would greatly appreciate any contributions that you can make; and

2.    Family Selection:  You can also assist us by encouraging those who you think might be potential Habitat homeowners to apply.  Applications are available at Kawartha Credit Union or the Bulk Food Store on Snow Road.
