Building More Than Homes: Marking a Milestone in Our 30th Year

From the Desk of Hazzem Koudsi, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings.

As we stand on the threshold of summer 2025, something remarkable is happening in the heart of Belleville. The former police station at 93 Dundas Street East—a building long associated with law, order, and public service—is preparing to make way for something just as vital: home.

In just a few short weeks, demolition will begin on this historic site. And while the physical structure will come down, what rises in its place will be a beacon of hope for our community: a 66-unit affordable condominium development, designed to meet the diverse needs of families, seniors, and individuals in our region.

This project is more than construction. It’s transformation.

And fittingly, it comes at a transformational moment for us as we continue to celebrate 30 years of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings. Thirty years of building homes, hope, and community—one family at a time. This build, our largest and most ambitious to date, is a powerful reflection of how far we’ve come and how deeply committed we remain to the belief that everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live.

Thanks to our partnership with the City of Belleville, we are preparing to move forward with one of the most significant affordable homeownership initiatives in our region’s history. This is not only the largest single-phase build for our affiliate—it’s the largest in Habitat Canada’s history.

When complete, this development will triple our local affiliate’s housing output and provide a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. Each one will serve as a foundation for stability, opportunity, and a brighter future.

We’ll be sharing more updates and opportunities to get involved in the coming months. For now, I encourage you to drive by 93 Dundas Street East and take a moment to reflect—not on what’s being torn down, but on what we’re building up.

Because together, we’re not just changing a street corner.
Together, we’re shaping the next 30 years—and changing lives.
