It takes a community to Raise a Roof!

The annual Raise the Roof event hosted by Habitat PEH was held at Little Texas Bar & Grill on February 18th and was a remarkable celebration of community spirit, generosity, and shared support of affordable homeownership. The event brought together supports from across the region for an evening of music, connection, and purpose all united around one powerful goal: helping local hard-working families achieve strength, stability and self reliance that comes with owning a safe and affordable home.

The Stone Orchard and Road Apples delivered an incredible performance, exceeding all expectations and bringing outstanding energy to the crowd. Community members, local businesses, volunteers, and long-time supporters filled the venue with energy and enthusiasm, reflecting the Bay of Quinte region’s strong belief in and support for Habitat. The funds raised during the evening will directly support the construction of new homes for hard working local families who partner with Habitat PEH to build better futures for themselves and their children.

Events like Raise the Roof are more than just fundraisers. They serve as a catalyst to spark the community to take action and turn hope into measurable benefits everyone enjoys in the long term. Every dollar raised helps offset the cost of construction materials, land development and build economic and social infrastructure.  In other words, the funds raised through this kind of community event stretch much further than traditional charitable contributions.  The result is a powerful model that turns donations into long-term, sustainable housing solutions.

Affordable homeownership plays a critical role in strengthening communities. For many families, owning a homes provides stability that renting cannot. A predictable mortgage payment allows families to plan for the future, build savings, and invest in their children’s education and well-being. Children who grow up in stable housing environments tend to perform better in school, experience improved health outcomes, and develop stronger social connections within their neighbourhoods.

For the broader community, the benefits extend even further. When families achieve affordable homeownership, they put down roots. They become active participants in schools, local organizations, and neighbourhood life. Stable housing also contributes to stronger local economies by allowing families to redirect financial resources toward education, childcare, and community participation rather than unpredictable housing costs. A Habitat mortgage is usually hundreds per month cheaper than rent. These extra resources eventually flow back into the community and bring economic stability to the region. It’s a proven path to success that empowers families rather than simply providing temporary social assistance.

Our Raise the Roof event reminded everyone in attendance that solutions to complex challenges like housing affordability can start with something as simple as people gathering together with a shared purpose. Music has always brought communities together to share a common purpose and in this case, it takes a village to build a home. The Raise the Roof event was a powerful reminder that when a community comes together, it can quite literally help raise the roof for families in need and build a stronger future for everyone.
